Carrara Marble Caves

Ascend the Apuan Alps above Carrara into the quarries that gave the world Michelangelo's David and the Pietà — a cinematic landscape of white marble 'cathedrals' carved straight from the mountain, often streaked with cloud far below. From the coast, Viareggio marina or a nearby port, your chauffeur drives the dramatic mountain road in a Mercedes V-Class while you take in views that few ever see. It is one of Tuscany's most surprising and photogenic half or full days, easily paired with Pietrasanta or the Versilia coast.
